Multi-factor authentication: A key feature

At the heart of this mobile app lies multi-factor authentication (MFA) which serves as an additional strong layer of security, ensuring that users who are logging into PrivX securely verify their identity.

How does it work?

PrivX offers two options for multi-factor authentication, allowing the PrivX admin to select their preferred method:

• TOTP (time-based one-time password) where users can verify their identity using suitable applications (i.e. Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator).
• Additionally, PrivX introduces a new MFA alternative using the PrivX Authorizer mobile app. Unlike the traditional six-digit code input, our app optimizes this process by offering biometric authentication through fingerprint or Face ID.

Strengthening identity verification with biometric authentication

The app's MFA serves as a vital checkpoint to ensure the user's authenticity. Even when passkeys are in use, which functions as an alternative to passwords, second-factor authentication reinforces identity verification.

Understanding the nuances of identity management systems is crucial. Currently, the PrivX mobile app functions seamlessly within specific directories, such as the Active Directory and PrivX Local user directory. However, it's important to note that the app can be extended to cover functionalities beyond the MFA. 

“While MFA is our current focus, we're already charting the app's future trajectory. Our roadmap includes expanding functionalities beyond MFA to encompass the approval process - approving role requests directly from the mobile app, simplifying and expediting access approvals,” says Esa Tornikoski, PrivX Product Manager at SSH.
